The Mother of All Days
Posted on May 8, 2021 2 Comments
Mother’s Day. She comes around every year and has a way of stopping me in my tracks. A mixture of gratitude and grief, timing and tragedy, love and loss. (note the deliberate order of those comparisons). Elaine. The queen of the glass half full. Even when she couldn’t find the glass anymore she fought her […]
The Management

Yes, still cleaning out the house! Every time I am there I find one thing that delights me and one thing that takes me down. This little hot plate had me laughing out loud. It is one of those things that I have seen my whole life. It is cloaked in familiarity. And yet until last week, I don’t […]
Slow down

Yes, I grew up in a house with Gandhi quotes on the kitchen wall. What? You didn’t? It all seemed sort of natural to see messaging around the house. This one popped out of yet another folder of clippings today. The article lists all the reasons why October is the best month of all. Happy October from Elaine. You can read the rest of the article here

This page is so very special to me because I know that aging was something Elaine struggled with often. She could never get used to its limitations; she often felt her body was betraying her. Or at the very least it got in the way of what she wanted to do. Sadly, this inability to understand […]
Tower of Babel

It is hard to believe, but not if you knew Elaine, that she would have this biblical clipping in the very same volume as expired make-up… but she did. The best part about this item is that the next page had three clippings titled: “Move your pills”, “Temporary fixes for dental problems” and “Brush and […]
Life is what we make it

This was the first entry in a book of clippings called ‘Important Articles 2007’. It looks that I will have years of Elaine-isms to post. Again, this quote explains exactly who she was.

Found this in one of the many files. Truly Elaine. She never lost her sense of wonder.
A mother’s roots

Indeed! This sits in a frame next to pictures of my grandmother. I never noticed this until the day Elaine fell. We returned to her house and sitting with my brother in his old bedroom it caught my eye.
